New Amiga On The Way

Looks like Commodore USA is just full of news this past week. It was just a few days ago that they announced the return of an updated Commodore 64 and now they are talking about the return of their 90′s mainstay; the Amiga. Looks like they will follow the same road as the new PC64 with cramming everything into the keyboard much like the old Amiga 1200, but according to the press release they are being mum on the hardware details.

Commodore USA has now taken a major role in not just supporting the future Amiga market with our many new products, but also in providing a new beginning for the enormous existing Amiga community. Our relationship with them, along with our support for the elegant, robust and lightweight AROS desktop operating system, will ensure that they and future customers will benefit from our new and exciting vision, and enable the legacy Commodore and Amiga culture to flourish. We look forward to bringing these new products to market, and welcoming a whole new generation of computer users to the Commodore and Amiga experience”

As a former Amiga user who still to this day runs his Amiga BBS on an old 1200 I’m super excited about the news, but I hope they use something like OS 4 with it and not a Windows based system. We will keep a close eye on this and let you know if any other details surface.

Commodore USA is a scam, dont be fooled. The real modern Amiga would be AmigaOS 4, created by Hyperion. It currently runs on ACube's PowerPC Sam440 boards, and there's a high-end AmigaOne X1000 on the way, with a dual-core PPC.

Commodore USA IS NOT A SCAM. This will be made pretty clear once they are shipping!!! Look at the factory footage, look at the effort we have gone to with design. It’s a bit much for a scam isn’t it?

The classic Amiga has spawned a religion of sorts, where absolutely anyone seeking to rekindle the Amiga brand is seen as a heretic. It is people with vested interests in alternative niche Amiga systems that are trying to derail Commodore USA due to sour grapes that their chosen alternative is not making the impact they hoped for. Indeed the product hyped above was promised about a year ago and still hasn’t materialised. So don’t buy into the negative commentary of these religious zealots. They’re getting a bit desperate for attention on the eve of our product release.

Commodore fans from the greater public see these kinds of rants above for the childishness they are and we have received a lot more love and support towards us than they think. Commodore USA is a small start-up company, trying to do something that a lot of people think is quite cool with the brands and with the form-factor. And it’s about time someone did something!  We are not taking anything away from anyone, yet you would think we were a bunch of crooks by the rhetoric above. I wish the very few people that are up in arms about us for whatever reason could take a chill pill and see what we are doing for the fun thing it is, rather than get all adversarial about it. If you don’t like our products, no-one is forcing you to buy them. The bottom line is, we hope you enjoy whatever system you choose to use, and we will aspire to produce products of interest to you in future.

The Sam440's are crazy over priced for their feature set. The X1000 is like the product that never comes, the Duke Nukem of the Amiga world.

They could really make some money if they actually delivered and didn't try to rip everyone off with their crazy ass prices.
