Remember the decision from a few weeks ago where a judge didn’t think they had jurisdiction to decide on the fate of jailbreaker George Hotz, aka Geohot? Well, Sony has finally seen their day in court and has managed to win a restraining order against Geohot.

We all know that once you put something on the internet it lives forever; the restraining order against Hotz only prevents him circulating the jailbreak. Sony would have to go after every single person who has the keys up to have any chance of stopping the spread of their keys. They can’t be that stupid, can they? Of course not.

Sony also released firmware version 3.56 today. Will the new firmware bring us new goodies? Not a chance. The purpose of the upgrade is to put a stop to all of the jailbreaking that has been running wild. We have confirmed that the update does indeed prevent jailbreaking, the question that remains is will it do so for good. After all, we do remember the cat and mouse game that went on for years with the PSP modding community.

The masterminds behind the hack are speculating that Apple might fix the venerability in the upcoming CDMA iPhone that Verizon will be selling starting February 10th of this year. It’s a new phone with a new radio, it would be real easy for Apple to address the exploit in a hardware revision. The same could be said for the rumoured iPad 2, but new hardware that fixes old problems also brings with it new problems.

The cat and mouse game will continue and my money is on the dedicated community that has worked so hard to bring the jailbroken openness to a set of devices that should have been open from the very start. Way to go guy and keep up the good work.

We’ve seen the $1200 Mouse, the $150 Outlet, and the $8450 speaker cable and now was can add the $2,200 HDMI to the list.

Before the cable holy war starts over this, let me just state that the signal that passes over an HDMI cable is 100% digital. Unlike an analog signal it won’t degrade unless it’s over a very long distance. This “coffee” cable is only 40-feet, a far cry from a long distance. I understand that some materials conduct an electrical signal better than others, but since you can get a comparable cable for about $50 online trying to justify $55 a foot is crazy.

If you light your cigar’s with $100 bills or line your cat’s litter box with $20′s you still shouldn’t spend all this money on an HDMI cable.

First is was fail0verflow crippling the PS3 security and now Mathieulh has revealed that he has found the KIRK encryption/decryption keys that are used to sign PSP code.

What does all of this mean? Much like the PS3 keys that were discovered last week during a presentation at the CCC, any piece of software for the PS3′s little brother the PSP can now be signed as if it was actually from Sony. Sony and the PSP homebrew community have been playing a cat and mouse game for years and it now looks that it will all come to and end.

Homebrew for the PSP can now be signed with the proper keys and therefore make it look like legitimate software. No more custom firmware or loaders needed in the near future, a homebrew modders dream come true.

Looks like Apple is taking another step to put a nail in the coffin of the hackintosh community. Looks like the developer build of Mac OS 10.6.2 lacks support for Intel’s Atom processor which every netbook around uses and is very popular in the hackintosh community.

If this is a conscious move on Apple’s part and they let the build go live we might be looking at another cat an mouse game between Apple and the legions of hackers in the hackintosh world.

For the longest time Apple hasn’t really anything heavy at stopping people from installing their OS on non Apple hardware. With a move like this, which really doesn’t streamline the OS and looks like a blatant attack on the hackintosh world, I wonder how long it will take set community to find a work around. You can never keep the power of the people down (I just had to throw that one in there).

Don’t get me wrong, a good solid mouse it a must, especially if your a hardcore gamer, but $1200? I don’t think so. The ID Mouse from Intelligent design looks great and I’m sure it’s comfortable (at $1200 no wonder they won’t send us a review unit), but the last thing I want to do is spend more money on a mouse than I did on the whole fracking computer.

I’d be afraid to actually use this thing. It would sit behind glass, just for show. Plus, look at that finish, imagine all of the finger prints and smudges that would hold. Hey, if you have more money than you know what to do with go nuts, not me, this coming from the same guy who purchased his wife a $900 purse from Coach.

If your like me then you also have a huge pile of hard drives sitting in the corner. You know, the drives you really should through out but your waiting to build your massive multiple terabyte raid array with a whole bunch of 20 gig drives. Well, why not put one of the hard drives to use as a lock picking device? Yes, you heard me right, a LOCK PICKING DEVICE.

The Spanish guys over at sorgonet.com have done just that. By taking an old hard drive, an old mouse, a power supply and some screw drivers they built an impressive, yet odd looking, lock picking device. Take a look at the video after the break to see just how fast this thing works.

Lock picking has become a very addictive sport over the years, but remember it’s just a sport. Don’t build one of these things and use it for no good. Plus, I’m sure you’ll get some weird looks walking down the street carrying one of these.

Reports are flying around the internets that Apple is now shipping iPhones with a new bootrom that is resistant to the 24kpwn exploit that was used by the iPhone Dev-Team to jailbreak the iPhone. To be really honest with you I’m surprised it took Apple this long.

MuscleNerd, who is a Dev-Team member, has confirmed that the latest bootrom, iBoot-359.3.2 makes jailbreaking the iPhone impossible for the time being. People thought that the original iPhone would never be jailbroken when it was released too.

There has always been a cat and mouse game between manufactures and hackers. Take Nagravision, the company who creates the client access cards for the parent company of Dish Networks, Echostar. Hackers and Nagravision has been playing this game for years. A new encryption is release and shortly (some times not so shortly) there-after the encryption is broken. I’m sure it will only take some time and some crafty hacker will find another exploit that can be used to jailbreak the iPhone.

This $32 USB device can easily cause some great laughs or it will cause you to be beaten senseless. Plus this flash drive looking USB device into an unsuspecting users computer and your victims computer will look like it’s possessed. Random mouse movements, caps lock turing itself off and on, or random garbled text and phrases. The Prankster also features a time delay switch so that you have time to make a getaway before all of the mayhem begins.

Although the unit is annoying it will never save a document or close out of anything. Still, make sure you know your victim well enough to know that he or she won’t be calling in the cops to investigate some terrorist action being performed on their computer.

“Interference Laser Games” is a game that you play via a projector. Nothing fancy so far, but what if I told you that you control the game with your average everyday laser pointer. Check out the video to see how the pointer is used in Space Invaders and Pong. Essentially it’s the same as a mouse except it’s a freaking laser pointer.

No idea on how it works our how it’s built, but it looks like a fun project to work on.

IOGEAR is set to release a Wireless USB to VGA kit next month. The unit will offer you 30 feet of wireless video feed to any monitor or TV that has a VGA input. Why would you want to run your monitor wirelessly you ask? Well, maybe you want to watch that web stream on your fancy big screen TV, this way there are no cables cluttering your path. Add a wireless mouse and keyboard to the mix and you can hide your PC away in some closet.

Daletto, which is a Japanese publisher that is owned by Capcom, have announced Street Fighter Online: Mouse Generation. You will control you characters solely with your mouse; sliding the mouse left and right will move the character, combining different directions with mouse click will give you different attacks, etc..

What really make the game unique is the ability to interchange body parts on your character. So you could have the legs of Chun-Li and the upper body of Ryu. You can see how this will be so much fun, lol.

The game is scheduled for it’s beta release in February or March will a full roll-out expected in April. No word yet on a non Japanese version.

The hack allows you to still use the original Mac 512k keyboard and mouse, and by using an Atmel AT90USB162 to create a standard USB HID device the keyboard and mouse appear as standard USB devices, as will any modern USB deviceYou don’t even have to spend countless hours coding drivers for the custom micro-controllers that make it all work, it’s available right on the site.

“This is a Macintosh 512k which I upgraded to run OS X by replacing the innards with a modern Mac Mini and various supporting components, including a grayscale CRT monitor, an LS-120 floppy disk drive, and a microcontroller-based USB device that interfaces the Mini to the original keyboard and mouse. Why? Mainly because I wanted to experiment with creating a custom USB device. Also I guess I wanted to waste hundreds of dollars and countless hours building a semi-useless computer with a 9 inch black and white screen and no arrow keys.

The most interesting part of the project for me was the circuit that allows the old original keyboard and mouse to be used with the Mini. It is based on an Atmel AT90USB162 microcontroller, which is basically a standard AVR µC with a special coprocessor dedicated to USB signaling. It comes with a C library that makes it relatively easy to create USB devices like HID keyboards and mice, speakers, storage devices, etc.”

Since Apple announce earlier this week new Desktop machines, and since I’m due a new Desktop to work on, I figured what the hell lets hit the Apple store online and see what I could build.

The range will consist of a mouse, headset, travel adapter, and a choice of 2 battery extension packs. There are multiple colour choices for the mouse and headset, but it seems that the travel adapter and battery pack will only be available in white which really sucks since my EEE PC is black. I know you can get mice and earphones from any old place, but will they match your super cool EEE PC?

Prices and shipping haven’t been announced yet, but expect to see these on your store shelves in early 08.
