PSP Phone Caught On Video

Last week we showed off some video of the yet to be announced PSP Phone (which has been dubbed the Xperia Play). Now we have stumbled on some video of the actual unit in action.

Funny enough the above video shows the unit running an Android app called ROM Buddy PSX, which is a PSOne emulator; which I doubt will be built into the phone. The game play looks real smooth and the controllers seem quite responsive, a definite plus.

Regardless, the more I see this phone in action the more I want one. I would scratch my Android itch and allow me to play my PSP games. Killing two birds with one stone.

Build An Annoying Beeping Thing

I’m always up for a good practical joke, especially the kind that involves electronics and can drive people mad. Get your soldering guns out kids, this is a good one.

The Annoying Beeping Thing is a simple circuit board that is powered by a single 9-volt battery and outputs a high-pitched whining sound through a tiny speaker or piezo buzzer.

As you can see from the pictures above it’s hidden inside of a transformed but this thing is so tiny that you can practically hide it anywhere. Make sure you don’t let the joke run on too long as it might really get on someone’s nerve who might not think it’s all that funny. Check out the video after the break of it’s construction and to hear it in action.

Microsoft’s App Lab

I’ll give Microsoft credit, when they want to be funny they are funny. The Windows Mobile Dev team released this video giving everyone a sneak peak from their super secret application development lab of the upcoming apps that will be released on the new Windows Marketplace.

I love the under-tone of poking fun at Apple’s ridiculous app approval process. They talk about some of the apps that have been rejected like the “You Are Here GPS App” and my personal favorite the virtual handsake app called the “Germaphobe”. I’d pay $0.99 for it.

DIY: Front Door Opener

Ever wish you could open your front door the same way you open your car door? With a small key fob? This crafty (maybe even lazy) college student did just that.

We are talking some serious ass hardware hacking required to pull this off, but it’s one fun project to build, maybe not the nicest looking, but cool never-the-less. As you can see from the video it works well. I just wonder how safe this is. I use to have a car with a key fob that opened a neighbors garage. It was funny as hell. I’d lock my car and his door would open, i’d unlock it and his door would close.

iPhone Coming To Telus, A CDMA Carrier

Looks like Apple and Telus will break the exclusivity bond here in Canada as Telus is now reporting that they will be offering the iPhone 3G S here in Canada in November.

Funny thing about all of this is that Telus is a CDMA carrier. Could this signal the end to the GSM only iPhone? Could people in the US possibly see the iPhone on other carriers like Verison as well?

Pricing and availability still haven’t been posted, but as soon as we know more details we will pass them on.

Baffle WiFi Leeches With An Upside-Down-Ternet

Have you ever had someone leach off your Wi Fi? You could always encrypt it or use any multitude of tricks to hide your network, but why would you do that when you can have some serious fun with them. Blur their images, or flip them upside down to get them really scratching their heads.

Essentially what you need to split up your net block so that you have a trusted block and an untrusted one. That coupled along with a few snippets of code will lead you to a wealth of possibilities. Imagine all the fun you could have with those neighbors who decide not to pay for their own access and ride the carpet on your hard earned dollars. Plus, it’s a whole lot of fun.

This great geek Pong Clock comes to us via the Make Flickr photo pool.

User Funnypolynomial decided to put an old laptop to a good use and build his very own Pong Clock like we have seen floating around the net this pas week.

I rescued an old Thinkpad ages ago and began a project to install it in a picture frame. The original idea was to have it running things like Conway’s Life and the Mandelbrot set. But then I saw the Pong Clock on a blog and decided to just do that instead.

Bill Gates And Jerry Seinfeld – Episode 2

The second Gates-Seinfeld Microsoft ad made it’s way into homes today, and to be honest was a million times better that their first spot about absolutely nothing that kicked off the $300 million dollar campaign.

We learned that Gates and Seinfeld are on a quest to reconnect with real people. The latest installment has the two of them hanging around with a “normal” family. Gates asks Seinfeld to remind him why they are doing this (I think that’s the question everyone in the world is asking). “We need to connect with real people”, Seinfeld says.

Could this be a complete story to be played out over many episodes? Maybe, but I’m not sure how these ads will try to combat the Apple switch ads or even get people excited about Windows again?. One thing is for sure, at least in my opinion, the two of them do bring some great comedic value to the whole story. I’m enjoying the interaction between the two of them, quite funny.

Design An OS for $20-$100

I’m not one for ridiculously funny things, but this ad that I spotted on Get A Coder has got to be one of the most pathetically funny requests I have ever seen.

I need someone to program me a new OS (Operasting System) that looks different than Ms Windows XP etc. but has the same style. It does not need to run on a mac but all the other PCs. It’s supposed to have a stylish look with clear edges etc. And ITS NOT SUPPOSED TO BE JUST A REDESIGNED WINDOWS as I’m going to sell that operating system later on.
These are some important points :
It should have ALL THE FEATURES that Windows Xp Professional has.
ALL the files that run on Windows XP ust also run on the BlueOrb OS.
It must have a very user-friendly interface (like MS WINDOWS XP)
When it gets Installed, the user needs to insert a serial number.
It HAS to be HACKER SAFE!
It must be quick and good looking.

To top it all off his budget is $20-$100. If you interested in building this OS place a bid on his job bid page

XBMC Goes Cross Platform

Just because I purchased a 360 doesn’t mean my original Xbox sits in the closet. No, no, no, the entire family uses it as a powerful media center thanks to the homebrew app XBMC (Xbox Media Center), and now the XBMC is going cross platform. You can go and grab early alpha releases right now off their website for Windows, Mac, and Linux. The funny thing is that they can’t put the Xbox version up on their site for legal reasons (go figure).

XBMC is a robust and powerful media player that is skinnable, supports plugins like TV guides, and access to nearly 1750 movie trailers via Apple’s movie trailer site. It will play pretty much anything you throw at it and also supports all know audio formats as well a picture viewer.

This is just another great reason why the homebrew community can create and deliver such robust and effective applications.

A Pen That Sends SMSs For You

Writing out an SMS message can be painful at best, especially if your on a cellphone that doesn’t have a qwerty keyboard. Predictable text is great, but you still take forever trying to get your message across in 150 characters or less.

This is why the D-Scribe is such a great invention. It’s a pen that digitizes what you write, converts it to plain text and sends it off as a text message. No more thumb cramping and no more funny word choices from poorly designed predictable text systems.

Unfortunately it’s only a concept at this point, but if someone actually produces this i’d own 3 of them.

Your out for dinner with friends or family and your crackberry goes off. Do you feel a compulsive urge to see who it is? Must you be one with the Internet at all time? We have all done it; we have all at one point or another had technology rule our lives. For some people technology is a must, I bet most people could not remember what they did with their time before computers were around.

Here are 20 sure-fire ways to know if technology is ruling your life. If you qualify for any of them (some of us, including me, qualify for almost all of them) then maybe some fresh air would be in order. Either that or you need to aim for achieving all of them. That would make you an uber hardcore geek.

Pedal Powered Tennis Ball Launcher

Here’s an awesome hack for all of those tennis lovers. The pedal powered tennis ball launcher is built from a couple bikes and can launch tennis balls with the best of them (video after the break).

“Both cleanly powered and built from 2 recycled bicycles, scrap steel and wood, leaking 5 gallon water jug and a lacross stick, our pedal powered tennis ball launcher is a unique innovate or die entry. It allows players varying in skill levels to practice to be better at both tennis and cycling. The launcher is towed to the court on its built-in bicycle trailer. A bike is secured to it and functions to drive the device. Pedaling the cycle as one would on a trainer drives the two launcher wheels. The cyclist then aims and pulls the lever to launch balls to the hitter.”

Can you just imagine all of the fun you could have with this if you just started launching tennis balls in the middle of the road? Not that we are encouraging this type of behavior, but it would be quite funny.

Today a rather amusing rumor popped up on the web about the luxury retailer Holt Renfrew was going to be the exclusive retailer of Canada’s iPhone. It funny for a number of reasons. Read the Article and make your own assumptions. My bet is that come two weeks from now there are going to be a few disappointed Mac … opps I ment to say iPhone fans.

A Non Tech Video

Well this may have nothing to do with technology it is one of the funniest public access tv shows I have ever seen. The concept is the guy (John Kilduff) paints while on a treadmill while he blends fruit’s and Veggies. He also seems to get an large number of crank calls while doing so. He has posted over 90 videos of his live show on Youtube and has appeared on the Tyra Banks Show among others. In this particular episode he loses his patience and the result is pretty funny. NOTE: This video does contain some distasteful language and some my find it offensive.
