href="http://us.gear4.com/product/_/93/unityremote/?cid=31">UnityRemote box takes orders from your iPhone and transmits those commands via IR to any IR device in view including your TV, cable box or satellite reciever.

The app that you install on your iPhone to control IR devices not only allows you to send single commands but allows you to create macros (called “actions”) that will follow a set of pre-programmed commands to your device. For example, you can set an action to turn on your TV, change it’s input to your Blu-ray, turn on your Blu-ray player and start playing a disc.

Since the iPhone doesn’t come with a built in IR transmitter, this adds more functionality to your already multi-functional device. Reminds me of the old days of IR Commander on my Palm.

The UnityRemote box will you about $100

<p

Samsung and Netflix also plan to bring the movie/tv subscription service to more of Samsung’s consumer electronics in the future.

To make it happen, the Samsung Blu-ray player communicates with Netflix via its internet connection, then a Netflix interface appears onscreen. You sign into your account, enter an activation code, and you’ll then be able to stream “dvd picture quality movies and TV episodes”. According to their marketing material, there are currently over 12,000 movies and TV episodes to choose from on Netflix.

It remains to be seen how many people own an HD/Blu-Ray setup that would be in the market for streaming DVD-quality movies through a subscription based model like NetFlix. One might wonder if a consumer already has a Blu-Ray player, and an internet connection (and
computer), they might already be getting their DVD content from, ummm… “other” sources.

[Link to <a

Hacker StreetskaterFU seems to have no trouble getting confirmation from others that this method of running Blu-ray games from the PS3 hard drive actually worked. So far it has only been reported to work with some older titles like Warhawk, Call of Duty 3, and Motorstorm, but if this is actually true then this might be the break that hackers need to develop a truly functioning ISO based loader for the Playstation 3.

The video below gives you a grainy view of the hack. If anyone out there gives this a whirl please report back and let us know if it worked for you.

<object

Well, now thanks to Kip Kay you too can have a cool looking Star Trek phaser that emits a blue laser. By using a classic Trek toy phaser, a blu-ray dvd player diode, a resistor and switch he was able to slap together a phaser that actually fires off a blu(e)-ray.

As always kids, if you want to do this then don’t point the laser into your friends eyes. You could blind him and then be left to read to him comic books for the rest of your life.

The Asustek BC-1205PT Blu-ray drive speeds up next generation DVD recording, capable of burning in data at 12X DVD+/- write, 4X DVD+/-R (dual layer) and 5X DVD-RAM speeds. This is made possible by a SATA interface that offers users with five times faster data transmission rates compared to DMA33 standards. You will be able to access your Blu-ray media at data transmission speeds of up to 4.5MB/s, which is roughly triple the speed of standard DVD transmission. Unique features include Asustek’s very own DDSS2 (Double Dynamic Suspension System 2) that minimizes vibration caused by the spindle motor and resonance between components, Liquid Crystal Tilt for enhanced pick up head accuracy during recording and playback of discs with uneven curvature and thickness and Smart Laser Driver for stable recording quality. No word on pricing and availability though.
<p
