VisualHub Discontinued

farewellvisualhub.jpg

My beloved VisualHub, oh how I will miss you. That’s right, Tyler Loch (founder of Techspansion) has decided to close the door. Now I know there are a lot of tools on the Mac to help your compress or re-compress video, but none are as simple and powerful as VisualHub. For less than $25 you got Flash, DVD, mp4, divx, WMV and more, plus it is super easy to convert a video into a format that is friendly to the Mac family of products like the iPhone and AppleTV.

Tyler says that it was a difficult decision and is a personal one. He’s readjusting his priorities. He also has no current plans to move VisualHub into the open source world.

This is truly a shame. I know that VisualHub is nothing more than a frontend for ffmpeg, but I really hope he reconsiders and lets the community take the project into the open source world.

Apparently according to his website he has moved some, and plans to move his other projects to sourceforge under the project transcoderredux

    A quote from his website:

The source code for two of the projects (one you haven’t seen yet, and will hopefully really like) are now online.
I’ll get the other two online a little later.
These are new projects, with new names, ready for a new life with smarter people.

As you may or may not know, the developer, Techspanion has closed shop and after an outcry from fans, it has released the source code.
