SIP for the SMC WSKP100
II’m a big fan of open source software. Probably the biggest piece of open source software that is heavily used (ok, besides MythTV) is our Asterisk phone system that runs all of the phones here at home. The problem with depending on Asterisk is the need for SIP based phones or SIP adapters, which can get quite costly. This is why I was delighted to see the guys over at SpriteMods.com hacking an SMC WSKP100 Skype phone to enable the SIP protocol.
Why is this exciting news you ask? Well, SMC currently sells an identical phone to the WSKP100, the WSP100, which has SIP enabled. The key difference, the price, the WSKP100 which only does Skype out of the box is almost $150 cheaper. Go figure.
